If I had anything to do with the Doorman’s Union my first mission would be to get rid of those ridiculous, outdated and humiliating uniforms. It reminds me of something an organ grinder’s monkey would wear. Let them wear regular suits with name tags already!
“Who else can command those kinds of salaries and benefits for a job that requires no education, training, or skill of any kind? ” —
so what should they be paid? minimum wage? made any less they’d qualify for all sorts of poverty programs.
All jobs require some education, training and skills. Don’t be so condescending.
Four years from now will earn on average $44k. woweee!
For all those people who think buying in Bushwick or Bed Stuy is crazy (BHO, I’m talking to you), I did the rent or buy calculator, and it said to buy.
For renting to be a better deal, you would have to have a 2,000 sf duplex for $1,000 a month.
This is assuming a house price in the mid-400s and an appreciation of both rental prices and mortgage of 1 percent per year.

what about people who live in the projects and demand subsidized food, subsidized housing, subsidized healthcare, free child care, etc etc etc, entitlements that for one family can EXCEED 100K! so it’s essentially like the people in the projects are making 50-100K a year just based on the cost of those entitlements. fair much? no. at least doormen ARE working. you cant be liberal one hand and then giving the middle finger with the other.

If you lived in a doorman building, you might reaize that this guy for all intents and purposes controls access to your home, and may do a better job if given the appropriate incentive. I’m just saying.
The rent or own calculator is pretty cool. If you are looking at a coop, you need to use the advanced section. The assumptions for insurance, taxes, etc. are off for coops because the taxes get rolled into your maintenance.
But you can type in your own numbers and it will recalculate (you have to move between the rent and own tabs).

NYDN link is broken, Mr. B
When it’s fixed, take a look. A Scarano designed halfway house?
Too damn funny. If he doesn’t watch himself, he may have a chance at living in one of his own designs.
