  1. What about that last artist profiled in the gentrification piece, trying to make some claim that gentrification causes police to beat Black women and/or that gentrifiers don’t care about police beating Black women? Did I miss some kind of Guiliani type incident? What? Ugh, this seems thoughtless and harmful. Not to mention stupid, off putting, and uncredible.

  2. Hi All
you can also donate $5 via text (the cost will appear on your cell phone bill) to 501501 and text YELE HAITI

this is Wyclef’s organization and can be assured your money will actually reach relief victims!

  3. Rob, if voodoo worked, I’m sure the minority of Haitians who actually practiced and believed in it would have seen to it that the country was in better shape. The only true voodoo going on down there is the magical ability of being able to render Haiti invisible until some horrible natural disaster occurs. If you are turned off by the non-stop coverage on your tv this morning, something I won’t bother to slap you around for, because it’s a waste of time, don’t worry, it will totally be gone from the media memory in about a week, maybe two if a couple of celebrities like Wyclef Jean can manage it. That’s about the national attention level for disasters in countries with desperately poor, non-English speaking people of color.

In the meantime, I agree with Bxgrl, donate money only to organizations that put 85% or better directly on the ground to the people affected. I’ll see who else, like local Haitian aid societies, who can actually deliver, are out there, as well. This is a horrible natural disaster affecting one of the poorest countries on earth, right in our backyard.

  4. oh yeah, the before and after pic of the presidential palace was kind of surreal.. haiti is known for their voodoo export right? jeez i know nothing about haiti other than they are good at magic.
