I see a hole being torn through the fabric of the Universe.

“Brooklyn artists dare to discuss gentrification that rocks borough”
Dare??? Dare?!?!?!?!
Is there any more trite subject than this one? Between just NY magazine and this blog alone there must have been – what? – 50 articles on this topic.
Can we move on?? Brooklyn’s neighborhoods have been changing since the place was invented. It’s what makes NYC NYC – dynamism and the change that comes with it.
quote:
Her work is a metaphor for the idea that gentrifiers come into a neighborhood but are indifferent to those who have lived there for many years.
the exact same thing is true for people moving into neighborhoods that go the opposite route of gentrification. it really does work both ways. so many neighborhoods that were once stable, become destroyed cesspools. newcomers being indifferent to the values and mores of the people who have lived there for many years.

My prayers go out to the people of Haiti.
mopar- I don’t think that was her point actually. You have to read everything she says- she says gentrification has made the neighborhood safer. Her work is a metaphor for the idea that gentrifiers come into a neighborhood but are indifferent to those who have lived there for many years. It’s especially so for older Black neighborhoods and the inherent tension between long time residents and gentrifiers.
OH jeez wrong thread sorry that was meant for the OT
