Rich Calder of The Post takes a stab at defining the ten biggest Brooklyn stories of the last decade. It seems like a decent list to us, though we would have put the rezonings of Downtown Brooklyn and Williamsburg higher on the list. What about you? What’s missing or shouldn’t have made the cut?
1. Atlantic Yards
2. The Fight (Sitt vs. Bloomberg) for Coney Island’s Future
3. Cyclones Arrive at Keyspan Park
4. Condos Added to Brooklyn Bridge Park Plan
5. Astroland Closes
6. Rezoning of Downtown Brooklyn and Williamsburg
7. Marty Markowitz Becomes Borough President
8. Clarence Norman Busted for Selling Judgeships
9. Ikea Comes to Red Hook
10. Opening of Brooklyn Cruise Terminal
Calder’s Honorable Mentions on the jump…

  1. Joe;

    If you think that any Mayor of this city would cook the books with regard to the murder rate, and hide bodies by throwing them into cement pours, then I think you need a loooonnnnnngggggg vacation.

    (Benson takes Joe by the collar, and slaps him in the face)

    Joe, Joe, come to your senses!!!

  2. “…because you can’t hide dead bodies.”

    Really? You can throw them into a cement building foundation or a trash incinerator. I think crime is just much more low key now, especially murder. There are probably a comparable amount of people being murdered, many are either undocumented, listed as “missing” or are not particularly missed. I really don’t beleive most stats coming from the gov’t, like inflation being under 3%, you know they just don’t factor food, fuel and housing, the 3 MOST important things. Crime is not a flagrant as it was which is a good thing but this is still the big city.

    To cookin’ the books,

    *JOE*

  3. Benson and FSRG are winning this debate easily.
    They have cited verifiable facts & the only argument anyone is using against them is ‘but my friends and I don’t like Guiliani’…

  4. Bxgrl;

    You dodged my question.

    Now you state the issue is that I am far gentler in referring to Kerik than to democrats and liberals.

    Ok, is that the new spin? If you think that referring to a person as petty and disgraced is “gentle”, ok,I’ll plead guilty and then maybe you’ll end your bickering.

    So damn silly.

  5. benson- no. I just pointed out your propensity to attack anything and anyone who is democratic or perceived as “liberal.” You are far gentler in referring to Kerik, because you point out his accomplishments, but you would never be so fairhanded with Dinkins (or Obama, or democrats, etc.) You also present things as the ultimate truth- I’m telling you what I know from corrections officers I’ve met. Those are facts too.

    and what cillmylandlord again said!

    What does any of the criticisms of Rudy you cite (some of which are ridiculously false) have to do with weather or not he should or shouldn’t get the credit for a reduction of crime in NYC?

  7. I’m in awe of the defense of Rudy on this thread. Rudy defended the killing of Amadou Diallo and the sodomy of Abner Louima by NYC cops!
    Rudy pulled out of a Senate race when he knew he’d get spanked by Hillary Clinton due to “prostate cancer”. You have heard about his damn cancer since.

    Rudy the former “liberal” Republican, all of sudden got hard core “conserervative” (when it became all the rage) and ran for President and couldn’t even fool the damn Republicans! Then his stupid ass Homeland Security nominee locked up by the feds and now he’s decided he doesn’t want to be Governor (cause Cuomo will beat that ass) or Senator (cause he can’t be one of 100).

    Give me a break with the Ode to Rudy already. His own kids don’t even like him.

  8. Bxgrl;

    Do you actually read my posts, or do you go into bicker mode immediately??

    You state: “you can forgive Kerik his transgressions”.

    Really, where did I say that? Unless you have some type of “post compiler” on your computer that changes my post, here is what I actually wrote: “As we all now know, Bernie Kerik self-destructed due to his own petty shortcomings, and he was rightfully disgraced.”

    Once again: where did I forgive his transgressions?

  9. Ok, Bxgrl, whatever you say. I guess that’s why the Corrections Department named the Tombs prison after him (and it was Bloomberg that forced them to take it off after his conviction).

    No matter how many facts are thrown your way, you’ll find a way to bicker about them.
