Rich Calder of The Post takes a stab at defining the ten biggest Brooklyn stories of the last decade. It seems like a decent list to us, though we would have put the rezonings of Downtown Brooklyn and Williamsburg higher on the list. What about you? What’s missing or shouldn’t have made the cut?
1. Atlantic Yards
2. The Fight (Sitt vs. Bloomberg) for Coney Island’s Future
3. Cyclones Arrive at Keyspan Park
4. Condos Added to Brooklyn Bridge Park Plan
5. Astroland Closes
6. Rezoning of Downtown Brooklyn and Williamsburg
7. Marty Markowitz Becomes Borough President
8. Clarence Norman Busted for Selling Judgeships
9. Ikea Comes to Red Hook
10. Opening of Brooklyn Cruise Terminal
Calder’s Honorable Mentions on the jump…

  1. Ladies of gentlemen of the jury;

    The charge? Insulting Brenda and Donatella.

    The accused? Benson (of course!).

    The evidence (his actual post): “As a conservative, I’m always amused when we receive “advice” from folks like Donatella and Brenda on how we should behave, and to whom we should listen. I’m sure that advice is given with the intention that we win some elections, right???

    LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!”

    Clearly, this was an insult!!!!

    -Ladies and genetlemen of the jury, what sayeth thee??

    HANG BENSON!!!!

    Oh man, I’m having fun today!!

    Sorry to hog this thread folks.

    Signing off!

  2. benson- you didn’t insult brenda and donatella yesterday for simply posting their opinions? YOu did. You started off another post by calling those of us who want landmarking and preservation “the snowflakes”. Of course this is after the numerous times you have called us intellectually bankrupt. How about the many insults to MM? You have a long history of attacking first and then sitting back to enjoy the fallout. I don’t care about people disagreeing on ideas. I care about how they say it.

    I used “forgive” in a slightly hyperbolic sense- but my point remains. You can discuss Kerik’s good and bad points (he had many) but you can’t do the same for Dinkins or anyone whose political opinion is different than yours. Every day is a new rant from you- I’ve watched you get angrier and angrier on brownstoner over the last year. You won’t post on the OT anymore because you feel- what? Dissed? Insulted? Well, we all get insulted and put down at one time or another.. We all liked you- you’ve met many of us at gatherings- whatever your problem is, its your problem. And I’m finished.

  3. Alright Joe;

    Good win on the snark front. You’ll score points over on the OT for that one. Perhaps you should run over there – they’re probably getting into the next review of Jersey Shore just about now.

    You’re right. My debate above is akin to your claiming that Mayors of NYC bury bodies in cement pours so as to fudge the murder statistics.

    Next!

  4. Umm…The statements I made about Rudy have nothing to do with crime…that was obvious, which is why you asked the question. It was ’cause I felt like making a comment and I have a login and password.

    I find it’s funny that this this mythological creature called “Rudy” is being mourned. I cannot speak on the reduction in crime, I moved to New York while he was mayor. I do know that he made excuses for a cop killing that has become a major tourist attraction by Europeans looking to see the place where the Bruce Springsteen song “41 shots” originated…and police harrassement that outraged our city.

    So, I’m wondering who is this “Rudy” you guys are talking about. But, I’m definitely not about to look up crime stats to make a point on a blog either. Crime stats good or bad, what diff does it make…he ain’t comin’ back. We serve no purpose to him.

    My point is…get over him. He’s a dead fish. He killed himself though.

  5. Joe;

    If you think that any Mayor of this city would cook the books with regard to the murder rate, and hide bodies by throwing them into cement pours, then I think you need a loooonnnnnngggggg vacation.

    (Benson takes Joe by the collar, and slaps him in the face)

    Joe, Joe, come to your senses!!!

    ?
    Me, cracking up?

    That’s certainly the pot calling the kettle black.

  6. Bxgrl;

    I’m not letting you off the hook today, because you are just foaming at the mouth in your bickering, and I’m tired of being the recipient.

    “maybe you shouldn’t post insults every time you comment on b’stoner because I get the feeling you love instigating.”

    -can you show me any recent post of mine where I insulted anyone? (unless of course, your idea of an “insult” is to post an idea with which you disagree).

    -I’m still going to hold you to your statements above about me: where did I state that I forgave Kerik of anything?? That’s what you claimed above. Come on. Where did I make such a statement?

    You want to have a discussion with me, fine. You don’t agree with me, fine. As I stated above, I respect your personal feelings towards Giuliani. How do you respond after I made that statement? With your damn silly bickering.

  7. There’s something to be said about how statistics are gathered and interpreted. benson- please stop smacking Joe. Let’s all sit down and discuss this like adults, over a glass of cement.

  8. No benson- you waxed eloquent over what he did accomplish, while acknowledging his shortcomings. My point is your lack of fairhandedness. Maybe your reading comprehension too since you are ignoring what I wrote. And if you’re so serious about ending the bickering (complaining about bickering from you is a hoot) maybe you shouldn’t post insults every time you comment on b’stoner because I get the feeling you love instigating.

    Etson- not so fast. I’m assuming you weren’t here in the 90’s and those of us who were saw the whole gamut of Guiliani and the way he ran the city. I credit him with strengthening the police department and I also credit him with creating a poisonous racist atmosphere. I think slopefarm presented the best summary.
