  1. Poor in the USA is very different from poor elsewhere. I often claim poverty, but I’ve got food in the fridge, satellite tv, a cell, and relatively new MacBook… When I look around my apt, I know I have to check myself with my claims of being poor. I made choices in terms of what to spend my $$ on and by and large, being ‘poor’ is my own damn fault and at the same time, it’s not truly poor. Seems like Chereen needs to check herself, too.

  2. The NY Post story is complete bullsh*t. Half-ass reporting with many questions left unanswered. And by the way, what was the impetus behind that particular article, anyway?

“The Hancock St. house violates Department of Buildings occupancy rules, has racked up $47,000 in fines and is illegally operating, city records show.

But since a June inspection found no fire safety code violations, the Buildings Department can’t issue an immediate vacate order, said spokeswoman Ryan Fitzgibbon.”

    Truly ridiculous.

  3. Such shoddy reporting. It doesn’t say what her prior job was that entitled her to $315 of UI, nor does it say how long she was unemployed or whether she is even working as a cosmetologist. (And how much of beauty school income is off the books?)

And yes $100/month is way too high.

  4. OK, so all these fare hikes, Tell me, with the last 4 hikes we had through the years, that was supposed to remedy the solution to the never ever, ever ending defecits, Where has all the money gone too?????

It just amazes me that we keep getting all these fare hikes, yet they still cry they have no money……..

Apparantly they have really shitty accountants, because there never seems to be enough money????????

How many of us way back in the 80’s lived off Kraft Macaroni and Cheese or just plain spaghetti?

lol im still living in the 80s. and seriously honey 100 dollars a month for your cell phone is excessive if youre claiming poverty. i bought a plain phone that i can text and make calls on for TEN dollars (and it’s still going strong after like 2 years). it’s a prepaid phone and you just buy minutes at any duane reade or electronic store. i buy 400 minutes for 40 dollars every other month so my cell usage is only 20 dollars a month.
