Despite some pessimistic predictions about the quality of the sushi, a new Japanese spot has opened on Nostrand Avenue in Crown Heights. Located at 604 Nostrand, between Atlantic and Pacific, Sakura Toyko is now serving not just sushi but also Japanese cuisine. So who’s tried it?

  1. Had the salmon dinner, with salad and veg tempura for $10.50. It was good! If it stays this decent for the price, I will be eating a lot here. Just so happy someone opened this on Nostrand. We haven’t had anything new open on this side of Atlantic. It was pretty good.

  2. This place is great! My wife and I have ordered from them three times since the place opened and have been very pleasantly surprised. The sushi is good. And not just compared to Sushi Tatsu. Everything has been well prepared. The fish and other ingredients are fresh. Highly recommend.

  3. This place is right around the corner from us, and we were waiting breathlessly for it to open. The food is great. I had originally imagined a bit more of a cozy sit-down experience (ala geido)…this place is definitely more of a take-out, or quick lunch vibe going on, but the food really is tasty. The chicken udon noodle soup is really good, as are all of the rolls I tried. The Sweet Sixteen roll is particularly good. The owners are very nice, though they seemed to be a little disappointed with traffic this past week. I will be mayor of this joint in short order.

  4. The food is good! I was a bit of a skeptic when my partner told me of a new sushi place that opened on Nostrand Avenue, but I must say, very fresh and the menu is pretty broad, quite interesting, there is something for everyone even the person who’s not quite familiar with Japanese cuisine. Considering the mix of stores on the strip, though it is a change of pace for that area it’s not intimidating to the average person walking down that strip or person living in the area. So I think business will do well…and they delivered all the way to Clinton Hills!!

  5. We ate there shortly after it first opened a few weeks ago and put a post up on Brooklynian – others shared their thoughts as well. Generally, the sentiment was that the food is “good” and “solid”. Worthy of some local patronage, but not astounding.

  6. We meant to pick up a menu yesterday, forgot, but will have to do so soon. Sushi Tatsu was much better when it first opened, they’ve gone downhill. Looking forward to trying this. Only sorry they went for the take away/delivery crowd. A nice sit down place would have been great, but probably wouldn’t be a sound business decision, home delivery is much more popular.
