way-station-121409.jpgWashington Avenue in Prospect Heights is about to get a little more rock’n’roll. Park Slope resident Andrew Heidel has been prepping a double-wide storefront space at 683 Washington Avenue in Prospect Heights for a new Steampunk-themed live music spot called The Way Station. They’ve had a few private parties in recent weeks while waiting for the full-time liquor license. You can check the place out for yourself at the Chanukah vs Christmas party on December 20 or on New Year’s Eve. Hopefully the joint will be open full-time early next year. Heidel’s been documenting the renovation of the space on his personal blog; there’s also an official blog for the bar. GMAP

  1. I love songs with plots, so the Decembrists are right up my alley. True, some of their plots make me go, wtf, but they’re fun. I sort of wish they’d been around Portland when I was in college.

I am wondering if people are going to wear hoop skirts to this venue. That’d be sort of cute, like, remember when you’d dress up in your best punky/new wave/goth outfit to go see a band? Awwww!

  2. Decembrists sound good for the first 50 seconds you play them, then you start wondering, why am I listening to this? Does it get better? Don’t I deserve better?

I like that Grand Pa schooled IJ in steam punk

  3. Steam punk is a interior design style or look mostly. Half of the throwback bars in Carroll Gardens are steam punk in style. It is also associated with certain fiction.

Steam punk is not a musical style, although I am sure there are a few out there.

  4. “Lisztomania” – “not easily offended”…yeah, car commercial and my radio player. They’re French too. they’re album is called Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix (dh probably knows that but everyone else). Cool title.

  5. You know, I love William Gibson, and Sterling’s okay, and Neal Stephonson is a total genius, but I do not understand this steam punk thing. And for music? So are the Decembrists steampunk? Was Queen?
