Good news on the Park Slope bar front: The owners of Great Lakes, whose lease ran out recently, have reached an agreement with their landlord to stay in the Fifth Avenue space. According to several sources, the landlord was just testing out the market to see how much interest there was in renting the space (an ad for the location pegged the asking rent at $8,500/month). In any event, the bar’s not going anywhere for awhile. Cheers! GMAP
Whenever somebody expresses dismay at less crime and fewer sketchy places because it has more “character” I think of Dave Chapelle’s recurring sketch on his show called “Keepin’ it Real”. And it makes me (through laughter) hope those so fond of the good ole days find their comeuppance in some little way.
Speak for yourself and keep it real somewhere else, dude.
Oconnors is a great bar to pass out in.
Obviously you’ve never been to Timboo’s, 8:35.
my favorite bar besides o’connors on fifth avenue
5th ave hasn’t been sketchy since the 80’s… anyone who sez different is a stroller pushing yuppie piece of shitscum! and a hipster trustafarian POS livin’ off daddy’s investments! fuck all y’all!
“when 5th Ave was SKETCHY and Park Slope had character.”
Sketchy = Character?
Great Lakes opened when 5th Ave was SKETCHY and Park Slope had character. I’m glad to see that it can stick around to reap the dividends it helped spearhead.
Mura!
There’s a wierd sewage smell outside of Great Lakes. Smells like sulfur. So, when I think of Great Lakes I think of the smell.
But, I like to drink there sometimes.
