More than two years ago, a big sign went up on a Flatbush Avenue storefront near the corner of Prospect Place announcing the impending arrival of a business called “Da Cake Spott.” The shop then proceeded to sit empty until recently, when workers started fixing it up again. According to one of the guys on the job, it will be a physical therapy facility.

  1. If the bakery that used to be on 9th st. which you’re referring to was that French one, then you should try out the newish (1 yr old?) bakery on 7th ave. near 9th st., the tiny one, since its the same owner.

  2. Borinhill:
I don’t think Blue Sky serves Cupcakes – only muffins and breakfast type cakes
Trois Pommes cupcakes to me aren’ t very good. I have tried them twice and their cake consistency and level of freshness is lacking
haven’t tried Colson – but am willing!

  3. quote:
There was a bakery on 9th st with amazing cupcakes, now gone.

i bet you that bakery didnt have a yuppie name, did it. all good bakeries and stuff are replaced by ridiculous places with ridiculous names and branding… see my previous post, apropos!

  4. 11217 – well as you know am busy trying to be a bit of a side baker, so am alwys trying to perfect my own cupcake(admittedly not there yet….)
but I agree with you on a great place like Billy’s or Crumbs (I too hate Magnolia)would make serious money in Park Slope -I just wish I had my act together to open an “americana” style bakery to Park Slope

  5. those overly sweet cupcakes suck. every friday outside my office building in soho now is a cupcake mobile selling cupcakes. they must be doing well cuz there are always soooo many people lined up. those kinds of cupcakes suck and are mad expensive. every 20 something chick from an expensive private college who has moved into the city thinks she’s some kind of queen cupcake baker. absurd!
