Cafe Grumpy, the coffee shop with locations in Greenpoint and Chelsea, now has a new outpost on 7th Avenue between 11th and 12th streets. The small storefront was previously home to the clothing store Lola. Grumpy is set up more for takeout than lounging; the narrow shop only has a few seats and a couple of benches. 1. agree that sbux may ‘dumb down’ the machines for cost and even time of prep, their economies of scale may help on the cost issue right out of the gate. i dont see them putting these in every store, but from a marketing perspective this may be a machine that gets layered in rather than replace existing drip machines to create a multi-tiered pricing strategy. i.e. you can get a regular drip for 1.50, or a clover coffee for 2.00.

    all just speculation for now.

  2. Cafe 🙁 makes me 🙂

Another great addition to South Slope…I wish it/them the best of luck. Hopefully its roasting/brewing pedigree and yummy coffee contributes to it lasting longer than the other coffee shop that was in the retail space where the salon is now (seen in the picture). I love my ‘hood, and this stretch of 7th has certainly seen its fair share of shop closings recently. Mazel mazel, Grumpy.
