We were excited to see some work beginning at the ugly, boarded-up storefront on the corner of Washington Avenue and Prospect Place, which was once a Crown Fried Chicken. Construction workers didn’t know what was coming in, although there’s a permit to renovate the existing eatery back from March of this year. Meanwhile, two storefronts down, at 687 Washington Avenue, a new restaurant is coming in. Similarly, construction workers have been in and out, but they didn’t divulge on what type of food to expect. such good news!
Yes, Sapid is much better than any of the other places.
Really? Sapid is better than India Place on Vanderbilt? That place is my jam.
I second the Sapid rec. Excellent Indian grub. Kind of a hidden between an auto body shop and a soon to be open juice/smoothy join.
Everybody in this area should eat at/order from Sapid, the newish Indian place at Washington and Dean. IMHO, it blows all the other Indians restaurants in the area out of the water, but nobody ever seems to be there.
yeah, that’s it… we also live near Washington ave, right on Prospect Place… been loving Gen and the burrito place and now Sit & Wonder. we plausibly moving soon (need more space!) so I’ll miss the nabe…
Fjorder, yes! This one?

I’ve been asking too and haven’t heard word on what it will be. I live near Washington Avenue and am crossing my fingers these storefronts get filled! If you spot any updates let me know.
Emily, there’s actually another storefront a few doors down (on the same side of street as these) that is WAAAAY more ready… workers were putting up concrete board above the establishment for the sign last week… I asked and they didn’t know what was going in.
if these 3 places come to fruition (along with Way Station, that bar that’s been **open** a few times over the last 12 mos) Washington Avenue on PH/CH border is lookin’ pretty good.
Very good. Now if they can just cut the number of hair salons on the street down. Seriously, how many of htose damn things do you need?!? On one block I counted 7, with 5 on the same side of the street and 3 side by side!
