taxi.jpgIt’s been in the news that Mayor Bloomberg is aiming to establish a new category of livery cars that can make on-street pickups outside of Manhattan just like yellow taxis. But first the city wants to hear from residents about experiences with taxis and car service experiences, and has put up a short survey about it here. Click through to give your thoughts on the potential new system, which is trying to improve taxi availability in the other four boroughs.

  1. why on earth do you want more cars trolling for fares and making more pollution? It works ok in Manhattan but with every tom dick and harry have at least one cell phone, calling a car service is just too hard?
If a neighborhood needs a car service they already have a dozen or more….
so the city will issue new medallions and limit the number of new trolling cabs?
it sounds like BS to me….

  2. coopfornow that’s why they ask for your zip code in the survey. i am assuming that once they target where people live, then they can use gps to determine traffic patterns as to target better where they are needed. at least i hope so, i can’t stand when they have to write down every pick up/drop off by hand (especially while driving)

  3. Car Services are the worst drivers in the city. The amount of times I have seen livery cabs speeding, going through red lights and honking (because the car in front of them has yielded, as required by law, to pedestrians) is too numerous to count.

It is ridiculous that they are cracking down on cyclists while livery cab drivers are free to menace cyclists, pedestrians and other drivers alike.

  4. I dont know what Yasskey is doing at TLC but there is some new scam that these Hacks are pulling. You can stand in Manhattan at virtually any time (not just at the B.S. shift change) and tons of cabs have their “off-duty” light on – and many of them are carrying passengers.

The city should institute a 95% transfer tax on Medallions, make them worthless and then buy them back….The license to operate a cab should be issued for a yearly fee – ad to alot more people.
