Last week a reader dropped a line to say that the new location of Carroll Gardens’ South Brooklyn Pizza had started selling pies on 4th Avenue between Bergen and Saint Marks. Yelpers corroborate this info and say slices are going for $4. (The photo above is from last week, so it’s possible the exterior is looking more complete at this point.) Has anyone in the area sampled it yet?

  1. They’ve actually been open since mid-February very quietly. As to the price, it costs over $3 to get a slice with a topping at Antonio’s by the B/Q stop on Flatbush. The $4 price tag for a better piece of pizza isn’t that outrageous.

  2. well those have toppings even tho they might be “low quality” not a plain slice.. and your screenname is “santa” so you have no right to judge people what they think is a fair price.

ps, santa, youve disappointed me for the last 20 years

  3. I’ve had the pizza, and it’s quite good. Still, despite how excited I’ve been about this opening, I too had a bit of sticker shock upon purchasing my four dollar slice. You can spread on some good roasted garlic for free, but in general, if you want toppings (which weren’t yet available when I stopped by) I think you’re going to pay extra on top of the $4, so I’m not really sure Santa’s logic holds. I will probably still get it when I’m drunk, because there are very few good quick food options in the neighborhood – though for delivery, Peperoncino is a better option in my opinion. The saddest part is that the guy behind the counter (very friendly, btw) said that they are owned by the same people as Cherry Tree next door, which used to make, without hyperbole, the BEST pizza I’ve ever had, and at very reasonable prices. Then like 2-3 years ago they inexplicably stopped making pizza. A tragic loss.
