Royal Video to Become Restaurant
A tipster pointed out that signage just went up at the old Royal Video space on Flatbush and Park Place. The restaurant, which is supposed to open late August to mid September, is called Prime Six. A tipster pointed out that signage just went up at the old Royal Video space on Flatbush and Park Place. The restaurant, which is supposed to open late August to mid September, is called Prime Six. The website describes the new spot as a 10,000-square-foot bar and lounge with live music and an outdoor garden. The storefront has been empty for quite a while, but commenters on Brooklynian thought this place looked underwhelming from the website alone. It’s hard to disagree. GMAP
Definitely don’t agree with your assessment, I disagree and clearly you haven’t been to Piquant where entrees range from $20-40. While it’s not Le Cirque, it is most certainly upscale.
As is Franny’s, BKLYN Larder, American Apparel, Flatbush Farm and Bark on the corner of Flatbush and Bergen.
Many of the derelict places you mention have closed and are either “for rent” or are in transition right now…that stretch of Flatbush from 5th Avenue to 7th Avenue has changed dramatically in the last few years.
There’s a new high end market on the corner where Sell it on Ebay used to be, as I said Piquant is not what you think it is, there’s a brand new lovely Prospect Heights Animal Clinic next to the new market…the changes are fast and furious.
P.S. I don’t love Burrito Bar but a place with $9 guacamole and $12 burritos isn’t exactly a hole in the wall in Tijuana either.
it does look pretty cheesy and probably is not going to be super-amazing. would i prefer something more along the lines of bklyn larder/flatbush farm/franny’s? oh yes. but i find it hilarious (if laughably predictable) that folks are already blaming this place’s preordained worthlessness on the arena. though i wish it were otherwise, there is so much ugly, cheap junk on flatbush already that it is silly to claim that such a place would bring down the neighborhood. have you all just never seen yummy taco, the check-cashing places, the substance abuse and outpatient clinics, the run-down bodegas that line flatbush? and it’s not as if establishments like burrito bar and piquant are exactly high class, yet they seem to be surviving…
Oh, dear. I hate an empty storefront, but I also know the people whose backyards back up to the “outdoor” space. That would certainly make me unhappy.
I always thought this building and location would make a great location for a small, quaint brooklyn-style hotel with a great restaurant on the ground floor. I love how it sits on the small open plaza-like island, though I agree with the sentiments expressed before me that, judging from the website, I can’t say I am optimistic but I hope to be surprised as well.
Just so ya’ll know…they CHANGED the website yesterday.
Before that, the FIRST picture that came up on the screen was a huge shot of lower Manhattan with the World Trade Center towers.
Not only does that have nothing to do with Park Slope, but I think some people found it offensive and clearly the owners have picked up on that and have now changed the website to have more Park Slope oriented photos…
Judging from the photo, the 2 stories will be including the basement, unless they plan to kick out the residents on the 2nd floor…
I can’t tell a thing about it from the website except it’s expected to have 2 floors, a back garden and 2 or 3 cabanas? I’m not too keen on their taste in artwork but agree that an occupied storefront beats an empty one.
Babouche seems to be a popular date night spot, IMO. Maybe “packed” is too strong a word except for weekends (but lots of places are like that) but the place does a lot of business in my observation.
Jester,
I’ve never seen more than 3 people at Babouche ever. And the 3 that are there are the people who work there. We must walk by at totally different times.
The place is clearly MUCH more than 1400 sf. 1400 is a very small storefront.
Kinda hard to judge a bar/restaurant based on a website eh? Doesn’t even have a menu. this could be the coolest place ever!! but then again, even a cheesy place is better than an empty storefront.
