A tipster pointed out that signage just went up at the old Royal Video space on Flatbush and Park Place. The restaurant, which is supposed to open late August to mid September, is called Prime Six. The website describes the new spot as a 10,000-square-foot bar and lounge with live music and an outdoor garden. The storefront has been empty for quite a while, but commenters on Brooklynian thought this place looked underwhelming from the website alone. It’s hard to disagree. GMAP

  1. Posters on brooklynian are not to be take seriously. Those guys hate everything just for the sake of it. And, come to think of it, many on this site are the same way.

I look forward to trying this restaurant once it opens and basing my opinion on actual experience, not the appearance of its web site.

  2. true, and let’s all hope it isn’t as bad as their website! (i have considered giving piquant another shot, but with so many good places around, i haven’t had the opportunity.)

  3. I feel you, I disagree.

Surprised to hear about Piquant as I’ve heard some great things. I have a few neighbors who rave about the place.

24 ratings on yelp are a 4 or 5 (out of a total 31 reviews) which is pretty darn good for that website. And it’s only been open since September, I think.

Anyway, may the changes continue. Either way, it’s great to have this hideous beast of an empty storefront finally rented.

  4. i’m not disagreeing that there have been changes along flatbush. i just think it’s totally disingenuous to act as if a new middle-market steakhouse (assuming, of course, that’s even what this is going to be, which no one knows) is somehow totally out of character with the neighborhood. hey, i live and own a house in the neighborhood and as i said i would LOVE it if every storefront was upscale. but it’s flatbush, that’s not the case, and to act as if an arena that doesn’t exist yet is somehow to blame for middlebrow establishments that also don’t exist yet is just funny.

to the rest of your comment, actually i have been to piquant and it was really unenjoyable. the service was inept and the food was bad and overpriced. it felt like a very large airport restaurant. and as for the “high end market” at the corner, have you seen the ugly new posters they’ve plastered all over the windows marketing bud light, etc.? again, i have no issue with a bodega on this corner, but high end it is not. and i’m not saying any of these places are trashy, nor did i say that burrito bar is a hole in the wall — i’m just saying these places and many others on flatbush are in a class that this not-yet-existing restaurant easily join without much trouble. agree with you on the animal hospital, the restoration/redesign looks beautiful and i wish more places took that kind of care.

  5. true – i would kill for one to open up near me though – their coffee isn’t bad. it’s nice to have a place to get inexpensive coffee sometimes, the expensive stuff really hurts the wallet!

  6. Oh and we just heard last week that Dunkin Donuts on Flatbush is becoming a sushi restaurant.

Sushi doesn’t necessarily mean upscale, but by nature of the beast, I think is more upscale than a Dunkin Donuts.
