J.Mclaughlin, which has been outfitting preppies on the Upper East Side for years from its Third Avenue store, made its first inroads to Brooklyn last week with the opening of a new shop at 218 Hicks Streets in Brooklyn Heights. Evidently the company’s creative director fell in love with the neighborhood and thought it was underserved in the clothing department. The vibrant, charming and historic community of Brooklyn Heights felt like the perfect fit for us. We saw a apparent disconnect in the area which is filled with stylish consumers but few appropriate retail spaces, so when something became available on Hicks Street we jumped at the chance to open a new store, Kevin McLaughlin said.

These are pants. They are white, with a coral pattern (like the kind that grows in the ocean) and they have sequins.
Sequins?
They are also $295.00.
I think, somewhere, their designer is laughing his or her ass off.
I still have my cardigan with the blue squares and snowflake buttons. They don’t make them anymore, which makes me sad. (I think they make the non-cardigans.)
“preporiums”? — finding my google dictionary. Minard is waxing esoteric today (well, every day). Benson, lol, 2:34 PM, re attire for a Capote reading . Minard and Benson may be the new Brownstoner comedic team.
btw, I wonder if a “preporium” where one buys cross-dressing (2:51 PM) clothes. (Not that I need any.)
“Once when I was in middle school and was a little short”
I was always a little short in middle school. And in high school. And college. And law school. You could say I’ve always been a little short.
LL Bean is good for certain things but for better quality stuff one needs to visit more upscale preporiums.
No madras? And not nearly enough pink and green. I’m sticking to LL Bean and Talbot’s.
“Once when I was in middle school and was a little short, this guy gave me the nickels out of his loafers so I would have bus fare.”
a way better ending would have been:
“and today he is my husband!”
So the expression “he would give you the shirt off his back” used to be “he would give you the nickels from his loafers”?
Only frat guys named Biff would ever wear shit like this.
