benson, alzheimer’s is tough, sorry you are going thru that, but sometimes they will do or say something that will make you laugh.. not in a mean way, but a wtf did they just say kind of thing?
I firmly believe that, given time (and maybe a little help from the CIA and/or Facebook), Iraq would have had it’s tunisian-style revolution. People have to earn their own democracy.
Probably ot a good thing for the region or the world if some of those dominos fall…may be replaced by something more radical.
I thought Ukraine was very divided between the ethnic Ukrainian anti-Russian part in the west (orange revolution folks) and the Russian part in the east (current govt, IIRC). I know people from both sides. The Russians seem to consider Russian vs Ukrainian to be interchangeable. The Ukrainians certainly don’t.
Benson, I read the OT very late last night so didn’t have a chance to respond directly. So sorry about your mother-in-law. My stepmother has Alzheimer’s. She lives with my dad who, so far, has been able to handle it. They have a really great gerontologist who is affiliated with North Shore/Long Island Jewish and whose office is just over the city line in New Hyde Park. Please write to me if you’d like his name and number. He made referrals for a neurologist who is also top-rate but the gerontologist is everything you could want from a primary physician. robyf at aol if you’d like contact information.
My wife is half-Ukranian, and at their get-togethers, they make a big point of making it clear that they are not Russian. Whether or not they are splitting hairs, I can’t say. All I can say is that at least in their own mind, they make a distinction.

Enough snow in the last half hour to coat pavement & street.
