“I remember when Thunderball got it’s first showing on TV. I was in JHS. All the kids were running around, ‘yo, he was fucking that bitch underwater, did you see him fucking that bitch underwater’. So I just said the same thing.”
Ha! I did the exact same thing – well not with Thunderball, but with loads of other stuff. I got really good at mimicing cultural references. I guarantee the skills I learned doing that have helped me in my current line of work (mostly international transactions, lots of having to fit in culturally or at least not appear socially retarded to people in other parts of the world).
You are all totally underrating the value of depriving your kids of pop culture.
Denton, I’m hardly a TV addict. I’m just saying that one needn’t reject it all. There are certainly shows worth watching. As an example, the documentary I referenced above on The History Channel about The Third Reich had an amazing amount of rarely seen home movies that captured certain events such as kristallnacht. I couldn’t get that from a book. It was more impactful than pictures.
Oh duh, sorry Lechacal.
“lechacal: ….the Internet is for the OT….”
rf: “What about the OT???”
Fail.

Oh actually I guess the Internet is for the OT, porn, news, and University lectures.
What about the OT???
i prefer trashy reality tv and not ashamed of it. high brow tv is weird like bringing home a prostitute to meet your parents or something.

TV, soothing mental wasteland
OT, funny wasteland
Bike threads – jackass wasteland
TV is a mental wasteland but not good old American legal to download porn? Oh right. Bwaaahahahahhahahaha
Which is a bigger mental wasteland:
TV, the OT or bike lane threads?
Your vote, please.
