There was talk on Brooklynian of Park Slope’s Pollio Fine Food closing, and when we stopped by the walls were indeed papered up. It would be a shame to see one of the Slope’s few remaining Italian deli’s closed up, so here’s hoping they’re just renovating. Anyone heard any word on this place? GMAP

  1. I went buy the store yesterday and the space is for rent; there is a sign by a commercial real estate company. It’s so sad–I had been shopping there since 1986, back when they were still in the original store.

  2. Too bad – though to be honest, Pollio never regained its footing after moving back in 2005…
I can’t remember his name, but I truly miss the bald co-owner who worked the counter [and said he was going to move to Florida with the money they made selling the original store, one block south from the current spot]. He & the old man who occasionally worked there knew how to make great sandwiches. Plus, it was a real neighborhood place.
I tried to patronize the new location, but it wasn’t particularly appetizing or well-run.
By contrast, A&S pork store made a successful transition to their new, larger space & seem to be on top of their game.
