Pollio Fine Food Closed?
There was talk on Brooklynian of Park Slope’s Pollio Fine Food closing, and when we stopped by the walls were indeed papered up. It would be a shame to see one of the Slope’s few remaining Italian deli’s closed up, so here’s hoping they’re just renovating. Anyone heard any word on this place? GMAP
yeah, it’s gone. Bummer. I’ll bet ol’ Brooklyn Bread was the final nail in their coffin.
I went buy the store yesterday and the space is for rent; there is a sign by a commercial real estate company. It’s so sad–I had been shopping there since 1986, back when they were still in the original store.
I saw Matt (the owner) today and he stated that they were renovating. Nice guy and so is Antonio!
they told me a couple weeks ago that they were closing for renovation! hope it’s true.
So when is the BOTANICA place closing? Who the hell shops there? That place is an eyesore.
What’s wrong w/ the name? It’s where the supermarket brand Polly-O came from.
novanglus- Why is that an unfortunate name? The first o is a short vowel so that it’s pronounced the same as in POLLY wants a cracker.
Unfortunate name for a food establishment. Maybe it will re-open as a French place named Yeubeaula.
Too bad – though to be honest, Pollio never regained its footing after moving back in 2005…
I can’t remember his name, but I truly miss the bald co-owner who worked the counter [and said he was going to move to Florida with the money they made selling the original store, one block south from the current spot]. He & the old man who occasionally worked there knew how to make great sandwiches. Plus, it was a real neighborhood place.
I tried to patronize the new location, but it wasn’t particularly appetizing or well-run.
By contrast, A&S pork store made a successful transition to their new, larger space & seem to be on top of their game.
