  1. Brownstoner, now the the hotel has been shut down and Putnam and Grand transformed into a gated community, are you gonna vote for Tish? Or were you just paying lip service to the notion of politicians being accountable to their constituents?

  2. “Are you seriously proposing that nothing be done about crime anywhere in NYC simply because it will only relocate itself someplace else?”

Ummm, no. Are you advocating that we do nothing at about crime anywhere in NYC and simply shift it around from one location to another?

“Flop houses of this size is not a common occurence is Clinton Hill.”

Then why are we even talking about it? Perhaps the police should be doing something about the nabes in which they are common. Doncha think?

“And the community if far better off without it!”

Only your community, Sunshine. The community that inherits your problem won’t be better of.

  3. Im anon 10.21am and I fear I may have started this debate. Im not against complaints about the hotel but there is a dramatic increase in the last year…and yes, lets not pretend it doesn’t coincide with a lot of new residents in the area…in the pressure to shut, remove, close and sweep further down into Bed stuy, anything that might appear distasteful to those who have now been priced out of shall we say a little bit nicer neighborhoods. I was saying lets just not allow ourselves to yet again confirm the worst stereotypes of the effects of yuppie gentrification, thats all.

  4. Lp – have you done anything about the hourly rate hotels in Bed Stuy? Honestly have you thought about them for one second or written one e-mail or attended a community meeting there. Or is it just the ones in your backyard that you feel compelled to work so diligently at closing?

  5. Anon 11:22am, where is the logic in your statement? That’s like pissing on someone’s head and telling them not to worry, it’s only a spring shower! Are you in bed with the Prince Hotel Group or something?!? You appear to have a stake in this establishment thus your advocacy for keeping it open. Perhaps you’re a patron?

Are you seriously proposing that nothing be done about crime anywhere in NYC simply because it will only relocate itself someplace else? Do you understand how stupid this sounds to any rational thinking human being? We are taling specifically about a shutting down a flop house? Are you suggesting that it stay open? Flop houses of this size is not a common occurence is Clinton Hill. And the community if far better off without it! Get a grip!

  6. that’s the point- what everyone is becoming is totally selfish- why not plan real think tank meetings to solve problems age old like prostitution and drug addiction- it just seems very interesting that “intellectuals” look at people like criminals based only on the fact that maybe they didn’t grow up in poverty with drugs all around them and happen to be woman who realized when high could sell her body for money for more drugs. in other words, close down that awful place but don’t celebrate it like you’ve triumphed- it actually represent a very sad reality about humanity that no one will ever address because it is just so base and constant.

  7. No one is advocating doing nothing. Job training is great. I just don’t like plans that offer no solution to any problem and soak up police time and resources like a sponge. And don’t say that you’re not going to tolerate drug dealing and prostitution. Unless you know how to make them go away, you WILL tolerate them. It’s as simple as that. It will just be easier for you to tolerate them when they’re in someone else’s backyard creating problems there.

  8. Actually, Anon at 11.14am, if you attended community meetings, and spoke with Tish James, she is pushing for job training initiatives for dealers and additct, and help for women who are the victims of prostitution. Please, I encourage you to attend the meetings and get involved. A do nothing attitude, or fear of where the dealers will go, will not help anyone.

Some level of job training will help. Beyond that, it must be deemed unacceptable and shameful to be a dealer or criminal in a community. All this live and let live does not work when there is violence that hurts innocent bystanders or crime such as muggings and burglaries by dealers clientele looking for some cash for a score. Yes, we need to help people break free from this cycle through training programs (job training and rehab), but to tolerate their activity is not acceptable.

  9. Well, what about the families who live in whatever area the drug dealers now have to migrate to? What about their children? What about their quality of life? Are you suggesting that their lives be sacrificed to keep your neighborhood tranquil and peaceful.

Come on. Just take two seconds and THINK.
