The poster child for the trend: 475 Sterling Place, the 45-unit newish condo building “with a pronounced social vibe” in Prospect Heights. Also on the list: The Novo in Park Slope. Any other buildings in Brooklyn where people are still holding on to dorm life? And how about some real dirt: Intra-building hook-ups, anyone?

See what you started, benson!!! 😉
Seriously, I still don’t like the facade, but I think it is great that Novo residents are enjoying a sense of community. The little entrance patio seems very conducive to socializing and it accesses the park nicely. Neighorliness is an important part of Brooklyn, whether stoop sitting or apartment gatherings. It’s only when we go online that we truly hate each other.
No one is saying everyone on SI is racist. That said, recent events have pointed towards what may be an endemic problem there.
Ok, fine, I apologize to Rob. I have no idea who he even is and I doubt that in non-internet public he would actually make such absurd comments about adopted children and their parents, and if I did know him and heard him say something like that, I would have words with him instead of breaking his face. He’d probably back down and then come on here and post about the asshole who called him out when he said something absurd about adopted children and their parents.
I’m starting to think there are a lot of Filipinos in Staten Island. I met a few on a visit down south who are from there.

Alas, Ditto, ignorance knows no race, it comes in every variety imaginable. People seem to have a genetic need to find somebody they can think is inferior to them. It’s really pitiful.
I am certainly not defending a racist but I also don’t believe that one person from Staten Island making racist comments makes all Staten Islanders ignorant racists. Maybe I am wrong about that? As for the anti-Mexican bias crimes in SI — all perpetrated by blacks as far as I am aware. The one kid who was caught was ironically an immigrant himself. I guess it is easier for brownstoners to point out the racists in places like SI than to deal with the racists in their own ranks of which there are plenty.

Staten Island also had the highest percentage of people in NYC against the Islamic Cultural Center downtown.
