Another one bites the dust: after yesterday’s post about La Taqueria getting slapped with a big yellow DOH sticker, a commenter noted Ozzie’s on 5th Avenue suffered a similar fate. We couldn’t find their “grade” on The Department of Health’s restaurant search engine but their 7th Avenue location received an A. A sign on Ozzie’s door apologizes for the inconvenience and says, “Be assured that we are working hard on reopening as soon as possible.”

  1. You can’t find the 5th Ave location of Ozzies on the Restaurant Inspection site under the name “Ozzies” (the site is finally working!) because they are listed under their corporate name instead of their d.b.a. Look up “Brooklyn Coffee Roasting, Inc.” and you’ll see their inspection results. 65 violation points!

The DOH, in their so-called efforts to add transparency to the rating system and restaurant cleanliness, needs to list all restaurants under their d.b.a./whatever sign is hanging on the store front. Otherwise, you may never find it.

  2. rob, this is good. clean operations is not a biz killer. operators are just too lazy to keep operations clean and healthy. when a shitty operations cause food poisoning incidents, it hurts all similar biz as customers would fear who else has that risk.

  3. all these closings can’t be good for local businesses. even tho im a huge fan of dirty bodegas, i cant imagine how they are able to fly under the radar when they sell prepared food and coffee as well? not that i want the city to crack down on them tho.

this is stupid. what next? inspections of our bodies by state troopers before we get on the train? if we arent clean enough we cant get on?!

    *rob*

  4. Not surprised just based on the look and feel. I’m surprised Tea Lounge rated as good as it did (except for the “evidence of live mice”).

With Cafe Regular and now Cafe Martin, I dont see the draw to Ozzie’s unless its to sit on your computer for hours.
