  1. 900? are you all kidding?

Something is seriously wrong with this administration. My nabe email lists are buzzing… the DSNY is giving out tix for putting snow in the street. The dsny website shows the following. Where the fuck are you supposed to put the snow? In the trunk of your car?

    http://www.nyc.gov/html/dsny/html/home/home.shtml

-Make sure to clean snow and ice from the sidewalk in front of your home or business.

-Never throw snow into the street when you clean off your car or truck.

-Clear an area in front of your property for your recycling and refuse containers to allow Sanitation crews access to them through piled snow.

-Clear around fire hydrants so firefighters have access to them.

-Call 311 with any snow or ice conditions.

So, to recap: Shovel your sidewalk, especially around fire hydrants, make a nice cozy path to the street for the garbage, and shovel out your car. But do not, I repeat, do not, put the snow in the street!

  2. I went to visit my folks in Gravesend today, and I can well understand why folks in Southern Brooklyn are upset about the City’s response to the snowstorm, as the papers have been reporting. The situation down there is perceptibly worse than in Park Slope. The streets are in a condition that one would expect one day after a major storm, not 6 days. Parking is almost impossible, and folks down there are much more dependent upon their cars.

I can also understand why the DSNY doesn’t know when garbage pick-up will resume. They have alot of folks and equipment down there trying to rectify the situation.

    What a mess.

  3. Thanks for the update. I see it’s supposed to be in the low 40s tonight, so that should help too.

One way or another it’s going to be better on Monday than it was on Wednesday (when I was originally supposed to get back).
