Are you under 5’3? That’s the only way your feet wouldn’t touch the ground on a Vespa. Even then, you should be able to reach by leaning the bike over slightly and then you stabilise with one leg.
“chicken…I suspect there is much greater danger of you being hit, perhaps purposefully, in the traffic lanes. This is not a city, nor a country that is “scooter friendly.”

In my experience, NYC generally has very courteous drivers (how quaint that you stop to let pedestrians cross the street!) so I would have no qualms about riding in town.
I also suspect a lot of it has to do with the relatively low gas prices that you have and the “low status” that it probably has. However, it is definitely the most environmentally-friendly way of getting around after pedal-power.
“God forbid that NYC ever becomes cheesy like Florence, for example.”
Exactly, and God forbid the level of obesity drops in the US!
Yeah Biff, it’s quite amazing. I’m shocked more people in manhattan don’t bike to work – especially those folks on the upper east side.

Cool cobble. Website sounds like a great way to “toot your own horn” which is something every free lancer needs to do in these times. I should know….
“The website I built for myself to promote two lines of business I’ve been in for the past 20 years.”
Ok good but, um, ah what type of “business”? If you are doing something illegal I want in!
