in my projects building growing up we had a community hall where when we brough in our report cards and got A’s or B’s they would buy as a toy or book or whatever wanted as long as it wasnt sketchy or video games. no one got free shit there for doing anything sports related.
Is the Miss America pageant around any more?
I think they went bankrupt a few years ago and got picked up by Trump.
I have not read anything about it since then.
Don’t get your knickers all in a bunch, bxgrl. it’s the Miss America Pageant for god’s sake, otherwise known as a “beauty pageant.” And by some of the statements made by many of them, there’s often a serious lack of intelligence.
Besides, I totally judge guys by their looks, bxgrl.

legion, great point btw. That seems to be the way things are going these days. Why do you think that is? Talk shows or something?
Legion, brace yourself, I agree with you on this one.
The societal celebration of athletics over brains is really misplaced. Perhaps if we made being smart “sexy” or at least lucrative, kids wouldn’t dumb themselves down to fit in, or abandon academic pursuits in order to conform to peer pressure to be cool.
Legion- I don’t disagree with you on that at all. And its because society values athletic, pretty people and rewards them for being that way. How else do you explain the fact that Miss America is a “scholarship” program limited to women who are intelligent but also have to look good in a bathing suit.
In other words, you can have brains but you’ll still be judged like a piece of meat. Cynical? Yep. Those girls work hard to get to that level in pageants. They spend huge bucks (well, their parents do), years of training, make overs, etc. But it isn’t their smarts that they are judged on- its their looks and their ability to perform. I think that’s insulting.
Hug a geek today!!
(Waiting for the hugs from the OT ladies…..)

But yeah, the pageant scene is disgusting.

Are the women on strike?
Go read yesterday’s OT. The Alpha male set outdid itself. 🙁
