hearing about/reading about sports is satisfying for a section of the public – it is entertainment. Academic achievement is really only of interest to the individual and their family.
well no one’s gonna watch a Miss Uglyverse pageant and since that show is all about ratings and product placements and ADs, of course it’s gonna be more shallow than it isnt shallow. i dont even get some of there talents, i think i watched one jump thru a hoola hop as her “talent” once and was like wtf?
also i dont even think most of the women in those pageants are all that attractive to begin with.
This was all a big piece on the CBS Early Show this morning, although it was focused on young 20something women. It’s cooler to be celebrity-aware or to desire to become one yourself than to achieve meaningful things.

This is something I’ve observed too – how come there are rarely attractive women in the attractive-women contests?
