Biff — Lancaster is way out of the way, particualrly if you are doing this without a car. It is a separate trip to do the whole Amish country/Hershey thing.
So much to do in Philly I would stick to that for a weekend trip. Again, my recs for a family trip:
– Eastern Penitentiary (cool jail and kids can actually run around a bit)
– Penn Museum (lots of mummies)
– Magic Gardens (walk through three levels of psycho mosaics, kids can run around a bit)
– Franklin Institute (if you go, go early, gets mobbed, don’t do everything but do the giant heart)
– Art Museum may be open with music and food on saturday night, a good way to see it with kids (and don’t miss the Duchamp room, my fave at that museum)
– Obligatory visit to something historic related to revolutionary war, though champs may be too young to get it, you could save this for a few years
– Cheese steaks
– Might be some crew races to watch on the Schuylkill
I don’t understand why you guys are encouraging Rob and his anti-intellectual ranting. He went to college, should we tell him he was an idiot to do that, too?
Why is knowledge/information a ‘bad thing’. The NYer articles are really well written, even if the subjects don’t always interest me. But when they do, I learn a lot. Why is getting good information in a well-written way ‘bad’? I don’t understand the attitude.
I bought an old 10 speed bike from Eddie Hibbert. SUPER cheap. I am going to bring it over to the bike place on Vanderbilt and see if they can fix it super cheap – brakes are not working. It is bright yellow and looks banged up like hell. Perfect.
Well if that’s what the champs want to do I have a bag full of broken crockery I’ll donate to the cause. Who am I to fight art where it happens?
M4L- were were painting the Binghamton State House so I was on a 20 foot ladder, armed with nothing more than a brush, a can of paint and a plumb bob. The mural was projected on the wall from a projector way in the back to get the image that large. But that far back the projection was pretty faint. And there was only 1 ladder so every 2 feet I had to take everything down, move the ladder, go up and repeat. Plus it was only myself and Art who was painting on another floor.
“Jessi, from Brooklyn, do we come close to Lancaster, PA when we go to Philly? If so, it may be an interesting stop.â€
No, you won’t be close to Lancaster. But, if you want to see some Amish, they’ll likely be selling things at Reading Terminal Market, the place DIBS suggested yesterday.

Cool, Biff – email my real account if you need to get in touch.

“Also, is there a BJ’s warehouse along the way? Mrs C wants to make time for BJ’s if we have a chance.â€
Don’t you need to be a member to get BJs?
“the articles just drone on and on and on like some reject vomiting up their 800 verbal SAT score in print”
Rob, that was awesome!
