“Funny how liberalism is always about moving money from other people to other people. When it comes time to make a sacrifice suddenly their generosity disappears. ”
I sincerely disagree with that, lech. Personally, I’m very happy to pay taxes, and when I have a little money to donate to charities.
I don’t always agree with how the tax money is used but I don’t go crazy about paying taxes like the rigid right seems to.

It’s a little different, jessi. Animal sacrifice (something I am not fond of) has a long history in ritual and religion. Camping’s track record for predicting the end of the world is a little suspect, seeing as he did the same thing in 1994. Most Christians, including a majority of those who do believe in the rapture, think he’s off the wall. Killing a ram is a far cry from looking forward to going to heaven while billions of other human beings suffer and die because they don’t believe as you do.
Did any of us complain when we made fun of Westboro?
I’ve watched a lot of CBN in my time and almost every one of the preachers has some kind of Adventist message. It’s quite common and not all that strange among evangelicals.
However, after reading a few commentaries on the Book of Revelation, it’s clear to me it’s a figurative description of the wished-for end of the Roman Empire, not something with definite predictive content today. analogies that are meaningful, yes; predictions, no.
Rob, you gotta admit you’ve been caught being a hypocrite before and admitted you never claimed not to be called one but yet you try to call everyone else out for being one.
“i mean – is this rapture business any weirder or more absurd than another small religious sect who cuts the heads off of live chickens every year?â€
you mean hipster locavores? they’re pretty odd, alright. with all the men wearing big beards and whatnot.
The privileged white liberals are really circling the wagons on these city budget cuts. This is a zero sum game played at the expense of less organized and influential neighborhoods.
Soon enough they’ll go back to blaming social disparities on conservatives.

Ritual sacrifice is just as strange – but since measurable outcomes arent tied to the killing of an innocent chiicken, it’s a lot more difficult to prove them wrong – these rapture people are easy to call out on 5/22. Also, from my understanding, a lot of animal sacrifice is done by Muslims (killing rams) and we cant make fun of them.
