  1. DIBS, I’m pointing finger at all those ’12 election politicians. For Obama, it’s harder to take cause he’s the most visible, the president, and someone whom I expected to be more different – a “Change” from the career politicians he lambasted during his campaign speeches.

“Not every republican Obama asked to serve agreed to do so, in part because they could not resolve the conflict between the commitment to service in a dem admin and their own views and interests. ”

And this is the part I find most troubling. That they couldn’t put their partisan interests aside to serve the country.

Nor would most democrats under a Republican administration, so just drop it.

  3. “after all that I’ve read about oddballs (nh), I’d be a little chary of meeting in person”

Funny, Puma, how apropos a lot of the online dating comments are given that we were all a bunch of Internet strangers until we met in person and began sleeping together.

Slopey, speaking of honorable intents and looking out for best of the country, what do you think of OBAMA and all these other ’12 politicians (both parties) focusing so much attention to the ’12 elections whereby they are willing to compromise on what’s best for the country as long as it optimizes their position in the ’12 elections

HUSH, m4l. God forbid you accuse Obama of wrongdoing.

  5. Yeah, I have a problem with Huntsmann. I don’t like that style at all, blowing off a Presidential assignment and then gearing up to take on the boss. And I think that it won’t fly with voters either.

And this is the part I find most troubling. That they couldn’t put their partisan interests aside to serve the country. That’s exactly the reason gov’t is not working well in this country (and many others). What ever happened to uniting behind the duly elected president for the good of the country? Now its all about getting the other party out of power and making sure they don’t get anything done. Whatever happened to listening to the will of the people obviously spoke when they voted?

  7. “Not if they really are a sociopath or psychopath. :(”

Well, in that case you are screwed no matter what until you either meet them in real life or do extensive background checks.

I was thinking more about finding out if the person has no sense or humor, or is only willing to discuss her collection of 100 cats.

“Clearly, then, if she doesn’t want to meet strangers from the Internet, the OT is not the place for her, and she’ll never show up at a gathering.”

On the other hand, someone who is comfortable with online communication may jump right into the OT and make friends with people to the extent that she plans the next gathering.
I have seen that happen in other online communities.

  8. Re women in IT, one of the things I have done in little sidetrips in my career is be the “earthlink” to several propeller head, quant math types, who lack the social skills to work effectively with clients. I wrote technical documents, and did things like business requirement documents (working with clients), use cases, functional specifications, etc. It earned me some good money between jobs. Not that it is fun, but there really is a niche for people who can actually talk to clients and talk to systems people.
