agreed–the newer stuff is pretty awful, but there’s few blocks of really nice rowhouses. it’s far from ideal around there, but at least all that newer housing stock has brought some additional services & businesses. north gpoint is nice as long as you’re close to transportation. it can be a long schlep to the train.
“DH, you shouldn’t give up on LIC entirely… if you can find an apt in one of those houses it’s not so bad. two of my best friends live on 23rd st just off jackson and it’s really nice. cheap, good access to a few trains. ”
yeah – it’s not bad if you can land cheap rent. but to live in one of those avalon bldgs and pay 2,800 for a 1 bedroom? no thanks!
vernon is a pretty pathetic retail strip though – did they get a grocery store up there?
i think i’m gonna try to move to north greenpoint. love it up there.

I looked a bit at LIC, and was totally unimpressed.
The areas I looked at had little neighborhood feel to them.
In addition, a lot of the new construction is either on the waterfront inconvenient to transit, or right next to rail yards where there have been numerous noise complaints.
DH, which hood is the front runner in your search so far? still Ditmas/Kensington?

There was a gay bar in Chicago called the Man Hole.
“Never a Man Hole Cover” was their slogan.

That’s true. It didn’t develop organically. It feels thrown together.

bfar, is there something you want to tell us?
Los Angeles had great Thai food. I good friend of mine lived in “Thai Town.”
I’ll have to check out the place on Court. I have been unimpressed what I have had here so far.
