man – that would be awesome if you could keep bottles at restaurants. don’t certain high end restaurants let you buy a wine locker and keep your own stuff in there?
Re Japanese and semi-private, there a lots of those places around midtown, which cater to Japanese and have bottles with different people’s name tag. You buy a bottle and they pour for you from your bottle.
oh, Benson, never saw a family fight, but I did hear tales of my father being quite a fighter, actually saw him deck somebody at Al Deppe’s who was coming on to my mother. “COMEON KIDS GET IN THE CAR!!!!!”
When I was a kid, everyone had a bar in their house, no matter how modest. People also drank alot. Finally, it was a pretty good bet that a fistfight would break out at a party or family get-together as a result of people having too much to drink.
So true. We had family parties and it was always the same (this is an Irish-American family). Men always blasted at some point, best buddies, sitting red faced, laughing, having a little yuck fest among themselves. Wives, drink one drink, “come on, E…, we gotta go now,” then haul off their husbands into the car…BYE.
dh…there’s a combination library ( african american lit), gambling parlour and bar across the street from Saraghina…very non descript
i think nyc needs some more old school social clubs. where you just pay your dues, chill and do whatever the hell you want.
hell, there might already be some but i’m sure they cater to an older crowd. i’m talking moonface social club.
hmmmm
“Any way, i got really drunk there and fell sown the stairs”
A friend and I once got plastered over drinks with some photo editor, and totally fell up an escalator.
It was pretty confusing at the time.
Haven’t really seen the wine locker anywhere but I haven’t inquired.
Not sure if any Brooklyn Japanese restaurants keep people’s bottles….most run by Chinese so maybe not even familiar with the tradition.
