  1. “then, yes, I would advocate that the windfall to the current owners be confiscated and transferred to the owners whose property value was expropriated in the first place. ”

    WOW!!!!!!!!

  2. I wasn’t arguing the overall point, jackal. Others have been posting about the lack of responsibility of RC tenants. My point was that you have to also look at LL responsibility in this context. RC has been in place for more than 60 years. Dont’ buy a frickin RC building if you can’t handle the economics. And if we do a wholesale instantaneous repeal, then, yes, I would advocate that the windfall to the current owners be confiscated and transferred to the owners whose property value was expropriated in the first place.

  3. The mortgage tax deduction won’t go away. Not unless we pass a flat tax. And if you think there’s a Tea Party revolution now, there’ll be milions and millions more joining if the flat tax is anywhere near 20%+

    Most people have no idea what % they pay. Most people pay nowhere near 20%+

  4. Slopefarm, that is absolutely terrible reasoning for keeping RC in place. The government expropriated value and then the asset traded hands so we shouldn’t give the value back???? Expropriation is expropriation. It doesn’t matter if the LL gets a windfall. The government should be there in the first place.

  5. “or the mortgage interest tax deduction. that seems pretty silly too.”

    DH;

    The Ryan plan calls for the phase-out of the mortgage interest tax deduction. If fact, a central point of the flat tax proponents is the phase-out of most deductions.

    As for the 421A tax exemption: you are aware that this tax abatement is not longer available in upper-scale areas like most of Manhattan and Brownstone Brooklyn? This change in law too place last year.

  6. mortgage interest tax deduction isn’t mainly for the rich.

    Most of the rich pay off their mortgages rather quickly or have none at all.

    Those are definitely there for the middle class.

  7. “What do I get for singing God Bless America, Kate Smith style in my parlor over the weekend??????? ”

    Sorry, I only award points based on verifiable facts. That’s just how we Republicans are.
