  1. “The right to own capital profitably is the only thing that creates the capital in the first place.”

if they bought the property with rent controlled tenants in place, it was their responsibility to figure out operating costs and yearly rent roll. buying multi-family buildings is purely a business transaction, it’s not like these tenants were RC AFTER the bldg was bought.

  2. quote: By more4less “Slum thread”

Hey! Please do not call it a “slum thread”. That will hurt some of our feelings.

lol, m4l, Please stick to wife-bashing :-). Oh, no I forgot that is husband-bashing (of m4l, by m4l wife :-). Ok, now am just being silly.

Btw, I wonder if Osama BL suffered from husband-bashing by all of the wives, such as: “And why do you not let anyone in here to repair this place? What are you hiding? Got some girls in the secret room? And while you are at it, get me a decent stove.” Or, “why don’t you behave like other husbands? Why do you have to go around blowing up things? Get a real job.”

Or, “Can’t you even fix a lock? All you do is sit around the house putting together and taking apart those AK-47’s, while you are blind-folded. Don’t you have that pretty much figured out by now?

“Oh, look, here comes someone in a helicopter. I told you to fix the locks a long time ago.”

  3. “and the entitlement of landlords that they HAVE to have a bldg that is profitable at all costs is amazing.”

The right to own capital profitably is the only thing that creates the capital in the first place.

This gets back to everything I said the other day about the simple mindedness of the liberal mindset. Liberals see assets and figure they can just grab them and redistribute them.

This is a perfect example of why this doesn’t work.

You grab the building, and in the process you destroy the building. It’s just that simple. The only people who are at fault here are the people who supported rent control in the first place. They caused this. Everything else is just noise and finger pointing.

Taking other people’s weath just doesn’t work. Never has, never will.

  4. ROFLMMFAO – The head of Formula 1 racing just lost a big defamation lawsuit:

“Mosley sued the British tabloid weekly News of the World after it published a 2008 story about him under the headline “F1 boss has sick Nazi orgy with 5 hookers.” A British court found that there was no Nazi element to the incident….”

ahhaahhh ahahahah ah ha h a ha ha ha

So it went something like this:

“You totally had a giant orgy with 5 nazi hookers!!!!!”

    “No! They weren’t Nazis!!”

Does anyone else find this hilarious?

  5. ‘RC has been in place for more than 60 years. Dont’ buy a frickin RC building if you can’t handle the economics. ”

    ^^^ this

and the entitlement of landlords that they HAVE to have a bldg that is profitable at all costs is amazing.

if you don’t like it – sell your bldg and work at duane reade or something.

  6. “The Ryan plan calls for the phase-out of the mortgage interest tax deduction. If fact, a central point of the flat tax proponents is the phase-out of most deductions.”

    good!!

“As for the 421A tax exemption: you are aware that this tax abatement is not longer available in upper-scale areas like most of Manhattan and Brownstone Brooklyn? This change in law too place last year.”

i was aware there was reform – but there’s still a huge amount of inventory of these condos sitting on the market with 20+ yr abatements in place. damage has been done.

oh – and the fact that every luxury condo in brooklyn now is FHA approved and you can get into a 600k 1 bedroom apartment with 3% down is a joke.

  7. That’s also terrible reasoning! Do you expect to magically find people who are willing to put money into RC buildings at a loss? RC buildings are lousy because LLs aren’t allowed to charge market rent. It is the government’s fault. Full stop. Blaming LLs for the conditions in RC buildings the height of madness. That’s like blaming supermarkets in Venezuela for not having milk on the shelves when that is absolutely and plainly the fault of the Chavez government.
