I walked from union square to twin peaks (got there at sunset) last night and then back.

I agree. But he should have known that was gonna happen.

I wrote something about this before, and here goes again:
Please consider watching the movie, “The Battle of Algiers”. It is about how war is waged in some parts of the world, usually Arab, ie little (and big) bombs placed here and there, lunch counters, bars, where there is dancing, etc. More of this is coming here. It (movie) is realistic, documentary and required watching for Special OPs trainees.
I agree with much of your statement.
It seems that we as Americans have to realize that the President can’t be a super-hero type of personality. The likes of which we’ve seen in the past. The reality of US politics today are such that any person voted into office will have a very difficult time making the sharp edged decisions and huge movements in policy that would gain positive results in a short period of time. Perhaps this is Obama’s biggest mistake, underestimating the fickle and harsh attitude of the public towards our elected leaders. He has taken a huge bite in his first term and the results are being debated daily while the hourglass to November of next year is quickly running out.
Despots have that advantage, over time their foibles become the entrenched status quo for a nation. Generations get used to things as they are and over time the despot even manages to gain a patina of respectablity and respect on the world stage.
jessi- I think Obama has changed a lot of things, and I also think he ran right smack into DC’s wall of inertia. Obama is a president, not an emperor. with little or no cooperation, there’s only so much he can do. And that’s true of most presidents.
benson, I left out mention of the signal improvements because they are so expensive, disruptive, and not that well proven yet.
They are certainly something that will add long-term improvements, but even before them there are plenty of things that can be done.
I don’t see F express happening any time soon because it would either involve spending more money on new trips or cutting the number of trips serving local stations between Bergen and Church.
We will be lucky if the G keeps going to Church after the work is done.
“I never understood why you would want someone with no experience and is “just a common guy” to run the country.
I want a highly experienced, highly educated, highly intelligent person making the big decisions.”
Personally I think it’s a crapshoot. While I do agree somewhat with both BHS and jessi, it seems today’s politicians are too entrenched, too slick, too in love with their own position. It becomes a game of staying in power, not doing a good job. And that is 98% of politicians, on both sides of the aisle.
One thing I absolutely do believe- power corrupts.
Thanks, Prezanon. So that would be a “no.â€

“That kind of line bothers me – it’s like, pick the dude with no record because he hasn’t proved through actual experience that he sucks yet.”
I’m sure you’ve both been through enough election cycles to know that populism works and soundbites can make or break a campaign.
Who remembers:
“There you go again!”
“Read my lips!”
“I knew Jack Kennedy, and you are no Jack Kennedy!”
“Stay the course.”
I think Cain has a good point though in that “career” politicians are in very low regard these days. On both sides of the aisles.
