  1. dibs,
It was held at a university in South Carolina.
    5 potential nominees debated:
    Paul
    Cain
    Pawlenty
    Johnson
    Santorum

    Many big contenders were absent.

All did well for the first debate. No huge knockouts,
seemed more like a practice session for all to get familiar and improve their talking points.
Ron Paul seems to mirror many positions here on the OT.
    Quite the Libertarian streak.
Herman Cain is a black Republican who had the best line of the night when he positioned himself as the anti-politican.
When asked about political experience he responded by asking the crowd “How have the career politicans been working for you thus far” or something to that effect. Everyone cheered.

  2. “The South Brooklyn/Culver line (F/G) had unused express tracks (currently under renovation)

I assumed that they weren’t actually usable w/o renovation.”

They have always been usable, although for a while there were some switch issues following a fire that limited their flexibility in terms of switching trains between Bergen, Jay, and Hoyt-Schermerhorn.

In fact, the express tracks on the viaduct were used to turn G trains around. This is why the first step of the rehabilitation was to extend the G to Church Avenue.

On the other hand, w/o renovation, any increase of trains on that section would have sped up the deterioration of the viaduct.
