  1. Every military action these days has to be justified because there will always be haters. Bush had the Democrats hating on him and he was thus proud to announce Saddam’s capture. Insert ‘Obama,’ “Republicans’ and ‘Bin Laden’ and the same holds true. Not to say that executing either was right or wrong, but I think each man (Obama and Bush) faced similar pressures.

  2. I suspect that the force necessary to get in there and capture him didn’t leave them the choice to take him out alive. This was one slick man surrounded by people willing to kill/die for him so a blitz attack leaving little to no survivors was a necessity.

  3. Biff- I’m a skeptic too but it has been obvious for awhile now that there was increased US military action in Pakistan lately and I don’t see any real percentage for the government to make up such a story at this time. Obama is no showboater- he is careful and measured in his responses.

Saddam was a different story altogether. We had a showboater of a President, they wanted to prove something to the Iranian people- that there was a good reason to have gone into Iraq, because essentially we had no reason to go into Iraq. The only way Bush was going to take the lie out of “Mission Accomplished” was to make a spectacle of Saddam.
