Within my circle of close friends and family, it seems like the combination of a good degree and the willingness to do what it takes to be monetarily successful is close to guaranteed path to financial success.
I’m sure there are plenty of exceptions out there, and no shortage of short term setbacks, but I think there are plenty of paths out there that have a high probability of leading to financial success for those willing to follow the path.
On the other hand, following such a path when it goes against what you really want to do is a good recipe for unhappiness.
