Joking aside, I really don’t think dave is outside the norm at all. If anything, dave is just more open than most people. But, openness does not make him an outlier.
Rob, if you look up Indigo Children on Wikipedia, it notes that the label is an example of the “Forer Effect”.
“The Forer effect…is the observation that individuals will give high accuracy ratings to descriptions of their personality that supposedly are tailored specifically for them, but are in fact vague and general enough to apply to a wide range of people. This effect can provide a partial explanation for the widespread acceptance of some beliefs and practices, such as astrology, fortune telling, and some types of personality tests.”
I have been in many different groups (social cohorts?) who think someone should write a novel or make a movie or TV show about them. I always beg to disagree–in general I agree with Lechacal that we are much more normal/boring than we sometimes like to think, and that is extremely normal. As to the outliers, I would indulge Dave as another one who is outside the norm of people I’ve known before–everyone else, nice or not, good or bad, liberal or libertarian or conservative, USian or Canadian, white, black Latino or Asian, is pretty mainstream, in my humble opinion.

My landlords named their first child (a girl) Indigo and my cousins considered the name Indigo for their second child (a boy).

Check this out! Sherriff Joe Arpaio, who is my personal hero and should run for president, is letting people vote for Mugshot of the Day.

The site is pretty slow because it’s a huge hit on the Internet right now.
