  1. Rf and Arkady;

    If you don’t think it is obvious that there are a number of people on the OT who look for any opportunity to put the Church in any bad light possible, then you are deluding yourself. The hostility towards the RC Church and conservative Christian congregations is plain as day.

    I can sense the difference between someone who doesn’t agree with the Church on many or all of its points (see Scott above) and those who are hostile towards it.

  2. Here’s the entire quote for those who missed it.
    “I had a friend who was named the Godfather for his sister’s baby… the Catholic church wouldn’t allow it until he proved he was “in good standing”

    Suffice it to say, this meant his showing up to a couple services (out of the 12 possible before the christening) and 6 months worth of offering envelopes that he was expected to make less empty.”

  3. I read the earlier post about god-parents & that’s what I took from it & thought it stinks. If it’s different, sobeit but it was not I who first bruited that idea: I reacted to it – note the quotation marks around the sentence. I am godparent to 4 people & obviously was not a member of any church so it patently differs from place to place – probably even within one religion since prelates can be more or less rigid & tolerant. My viewpoint is neither biased nor is it hatred: it’s dislike of hypocrisy & calling it by its name.

  4. “The next time I set foot in a church other than for a wedding or funeral was my freshman year of college when I had a crush on a Catholic girl.”

    hehehe – this sentence made me chuckle 😉

    “If people aren’t allowed to stand as god-parents, etc. w/o major donations I’d equate that w/ selling goods for sacrifice.”

    that’s not how it works. you can be in good standing with the church and not give a cent.

    and the whole child molestation thing – maybe that wouldn’t happen if back in the day parents were more accepting of their sons who were gay – rather than sending them away to be priests.
