Lech, most of the places people listed above are pretty solid. I would check online first before shlepping to any of them. All of their styles are on the website.
You may also try West Elm. Their furniture seems to be holding up well and usually all of their wood stuff is all solid wood and none of that MDF crap.
DIBS, many years of experience lead me to conclude that it is my best interests to aggressively educate myself about couch buying before engaging my wife on the issue.
If I do not know more than she does when we start talking about it, she will win. And no one wants that.
