  1. “Retraining. Undereducated is society’s and the government’s fault. Expecting the government to step in and provide further protectionism makes no sense at all.”

-ummmm – well how is gov’t supposed to increase spending on education when the republicans keep trying to cut education budgets…….

  2. “does confidence still exist that American made products generally are the best in quality over let’s say Chinese products? am talking more about consumer products and not specialized items….”

You have to look at this on an item-by-item basis. The Chinese make many things mucg cheaper and they are of equal or higher quality than what’s made in the US. My underwear is a perfect example.

  3. “Therefore while it is cheaper to produce cloth in Portugal than England, it is cheaper still for Portugal to produce excess wine, and trade that for English cloth. Conversely England benefits from this trade because its cost for producing cloth has not changed but it can now get wine at a lower price, closer to the cost of cloth. The conclusion drawn is that each country can gain by specializing in the good where it has comparative advantage, and trading that good for the other.”

That’s from Etson’s wiki page and make sense.

But it does not support what we do in this country, have someone else do all of the manufacturing.

  4. “I’m trying to think of ways that the chronically unemployed and undereducated can get back to work.

Retraining. Undereducated is society’s and the government’s fault. Expecting the government to step in and provide further protectionism makes no sense at all.

  5. here’s my question though
but does confidence still exist that American made products generally are the best in quality over let’s say Chinese products? am talking more about consumer products and not specialized items….
