  1. I don’t know what kind of segue this is from discussion of jobs, protectionism, and economic growth which will support the middle class, but the news below sort of highlights where I think we need to go…..scientific research and innovation has such HUGE potential for solving human problems and for employing Americans. This medical breakthrough has me very excited…..

There is a big drug breakthrough for lupus today — the first drug developed in 50 years to treat this disease… It is called Benlysta and it is the first federally-approved drug to be derived from genomics, the study of genes and their functions. I wanted to see if Legion is around.

Like Benson, a family member (my sister) has lupus and I have followed in detail for years all the drugs (which treat the symptoms at a huge price to the body, bones etc). This new drug apparantly does something to target the immune system itself, turning off the part of the immune response which attacks the sufferer’s own body and was developed by mapping human proteins.

I am excited to find out more about this and can’t wait to discuss with my sister.

  2. I see everyone is posting about six minutes ahead of EDT.

Would guys mind telling where the entrance is to the time-space continuum? I’d like to live in the future as well.

Also, is it like a door that is always unlocked, or is it just a small seam that appears from time to time?

Thanks in advance (no pun intended).

  3. “That’s what people never appreciate. We get huge benefits from trade with China. People only see lost jobs. They don’t see the gains, which are enormous.”

and the people who lost their jobs, but can’t get the “replacement” jobs can just be retrained to serve me an omelet at a diner somewhere. sweet

  4. “Pray for higher & higher wages in China / emerging markets. shit, pray for unions to proliferate in those countries. Them folks making more money will help equalize the cost structure diff.”

This is dead right. In fact (coastal) China is no longer the low cost producer for some products.
Lack of natural resources vs size of population is a big issue for them.

  5. JB if you build a huge wall between us and China there would be a massive loss of jobs.

Trade with China has created more jobs than it has destroyed. For both countries.

That’s what people never appreciate. We get huge benefits from trade with China. People only see lost jobs. They don’t see the gains, which are enormous.

I owe my job to international trade.

  6. “in general, really dont give an F about the unemployed manufacturing folks. US consumers, through their buying habits, continue to show that.”

most US consumers don’t have the luxury of making the choice to “buy american” even if they wanted to.

they buy what’s on sale at Wal-Mart – cuz they’re poor.
