  1. What arkady said at 1:11. Spot on.

Our family farm in Vermont is not “organic.”

Most “organic” farmers I know are very cynical about it. They consider New Yorkers who overpay for their products to be idiots. It’s a purely financial decision for them.

  2. Denton is right. The “organic” label is pretty much meaningless as a proxy for doing good things to the world and has limited meaning as a proxy for eating healthfully.

There’s plenty of highly responsible inorganic farming and plenty of irresponsible organic farming.

I find many people with strong opinions on organic farming have no experience farming themselves and consider themselves experts because they have seen “Food Inc.” and “Supersize Me.”

I buy homone and antibiotic free milk and chicken, which coincidentally is often labeled “organic.” I otherwise do not pay for that label.

  3. I’m growing herbs on my countertop right now. Will that be considered organic? 🙂 I swear I’m not using fertilizer!

I WANT MY FARM SUBSIDY, DAMMIT! FARMER MCSNAPPY, REPORTING FOR DUTY 🙂

  4. I have no principles. I bought more stock in the company that laid me off and my credit score is not stellar.

However, since losing my job. I have drastically cut my expenses. I clip coupons and shop sales. I do not have a cell phone. I have not been to a movie theatre in year, I do not rent movies, have not bought new clothes and eat 99 percent of my meals at home. I had turned off my cable service. However, since getting a roomate, who wanted cable, I now have it again and my contribution is 6.50 per month for the extra box.

  5. no denton is right. what’s “way beyond the pale (whatever the fuck that means)” is being duped into paying outrageous prices and patting yourself on the back thinking you be making any kind of real difference on this planet.

    and jessi:
I get two paychecks a month and put one towards my loans.

    that’s batshit crazy

    *rob*

  6. Not sure if all organic is crap, but I do agree that there’s something inherently wrong with “organic strawberry” anything that doesn’t include a single strawberry. Or maybe I’m confusing organic with “all natural.” Both seem to be bogus labels sometimes.
