  1. >hen someone here says they lost their job, would it not be tasteless for someone else to recommend that company as a “buy”?

jessie, losing battle. there are those few of us who think corporations (and the financial world) has a public responsibility and the majority who don’t. The financial community in this city exists to make money, and how it does so is entirely up to it, except occasionally when the Feds intervene and slap a wrist or two. What bets that Indian chappie gets off?

  2. denton – pectin is natural – it’s a part of fruits & berries & is what causes, for instance, cranberries to gel for sauce.
There was a recent article about blueberries (& the lack thereof) in most consumer & organic products – they’re non-existent for the most part. Much better to buy your own ingredients & make muffins, cookies, etc.

  3. >99% of organic food is bullshit.

wOW, denton, you’re channelling Rob (or is it lech?) THAT above is bullshit. If you can’t see the advantages of organic food and its benefits in terms of land maintenance, better animal husbandry and your health, you’re way beyond the pale.

  4. and….am back!

So what do you all think of the media running stories about “Made In America” products. Interesting as I recall this same campaign in the mid 80’s when Japan was our nemesis. Did that campaign really help our economy? Should we really start trying to buy more American made products in order to keep jobs here??

  5. Principles, M4L, principles. That means abstract bullcrap that people argue about but probably don’t really believe when it really comes down to it. You know, stuff that people believe to fool themselves into thinking their lives have meaning. Not buttsecks.

  6. So, I looked into renting a houseboat in the Eerie Canal. (Thanks Lech). Most rentals start June 1st and many are for one week. There are a few operations that will do off-season and 3-4 days.
Seems like it’s more fun to do in the summer and is too cold to do now.

Here’s some info and outfits that you can charter from, if anyone is interested.
