  1. quote:
I feel bad especially for black/hispanic youth b/c they don’t seem to ever want to try and find different music to be into.

that’s one of the strangest things i’ve EVER heard.

    *rob*

  2. Gem, it’s a lack of respect for others. At least I think so. To me, it just falls under the category of rude. Lots of rude kids today. On the 63 yesterday, a girl of about 15 sat in the front seat of the bus when an ancient woman with a walker got on. The girl refused to get up, so another elderly person wound up getting up to give the seat to the one with the walker. Flat out shameful. Myself and another man proceeded to talk about her for the rest of my ride and made sure she heard us. He even repeated some of the things in Spanish to be sure she understood. She didn’t give a damn. Just kept sitting in that seat. All the while, some doofus was in the very back playing music through a phone. Horrid.

  3. “Maybe a poor attempt at reverse psychology to get them to turn it off? ie strange white dude likes my music and is talking to me, if I turn it off he’ll go away.”

Yeah, like the way they pipe muzak into convenience store parking lots to keep the teens from hanging out there.

Anyway, last week I was on this subway and a very large black man with one of those microphones you put by your throat to speak was listening to some tunes real loud (it sounded like an MP3 version of a transistor radio, all tinny) and he was “singing” along in a robotic amplified monotone. Funny thing was, this guy was singing along to light 60s pop, like Petula Clark.
