Lech, I went for a weekend upstate in the woods, to get a rest and to write something I was procrastinating. I was thinking of you and your timber. It was beautiful up there; it was mostly oak trees I think, and then I heard this sawing. I thought guys are sawing these trees? Then I realized that it was coming from the lake. Guys were drilling holes in the ice and fishing. There were plenty of critters up there (also a SQUIRREL in the eaves of the house but he was stuck so I figured just let the owners know) and I came upon a huge group of deer as I drove my car out at night (maybe 8), there were geese flying around in formations. Then it snowed last night (after the rain) so I still have a little snow on the car… Nice.
Thanks, Denton. Those are all good suggestions. Yeah, white, so they kind of disappear into the shelves and trim. I just hear some Totem rainmakers and Totem mites at Stereo Exchange on Broadway @ Houston. Not a bad start.

Where in Manhattan/Brooklyn would you recommend I shop for such an item (i.e. decent audio store with good selection where you can audition speakers)? Willing to spend mid to upper 3 figures. ”

I would buy used at that price point. Are you familiar with Audiogon? Get a lot more bang for the buck.
There’s nowhere to audition anything in Brooklyn. Best Buy doesn’t count.
Manhattan you have Innovative Audio, Lyric HiFi, that place on Broadway just above Houston, Ears Nova (by appt only) Singer Audio, and maybe the best place at the lower end and they have used stuff, Park Avenue Audio. I’ve probably forgotten a couple.
At that price point you’d be best served by two way bookshelf speakers by the likes of Spendor, Mission, Harbeth, etc. Or the Magnepan MMG which is an electrostatic and white! B&W 685s, Focal 706V, PSB Imagine, are some other new but not white speakers.
I bought the original LPs of The Ramones’ Rocket to Russia and Road to Ruin. My family used to make fun of me for walking around the house singing I Wanna Be Sedated. That was when I was in my punk rock phase, decades before Park Slope parents were dressing up their two year olds in Ramones t-shirts.
Legion, we had a kid who had himself lowered on a rope, dangling outside in front of the window of my class. Some people will do anything for a laugh 🙂

Arkady, Harvey’s is gone, along with he rest of the 45th Street strip. B&O considered more about design than msuic, imo.
Most 78s are worthless except stuff that was never seen anywhere else… old blues, ‘race’ music, jazz, etc.
