  1. well denton i actually asked daved like TWO months ago to do my taxes but he didnt until today when i asked him again!!!

ugh this person sounds like a know it all

“This whole thread is full of people who don’t comprehend the basics of their taxes, and I’m going to wager that more than a few of you could probably file with a 1040EZ.

First, understand that this refund is actually *your* money which you have loaned to the government, interest-free, all year long. How many banks give you an interest free loan for an entire year with no strings attached? Fix your withholding allowances to come out even (or owe slightly). This accomplishes two things – you get access to your own money year long, and you don’t get concerned with the timing of your refund.

Second, understand how easy it is for 90% of the population to do their own taxes. More than a few in this thread have mentioned rent – if you’re renting, then you probably do not have a complicated tax situation. I’d wager that more than a few of you could even file a 1040EZ (no dependents, <$50k, anyone?). That form takes 5 minutes to fill out, and that’s including licking the envelope. I have children, own two homes, work full time, own my own online businesses, and receive tuition remission from my FT job – I do my own taxes in about an hour. Sure, tax prep companies may know of certain loopholes, and I’m not discounting a CPA’s qualifications – but many of us don’t truly need a tax-prep company. These companies cater to the lazy who can’t be bothered to read a few instructions (even if they are poorly written).

Lastly, referencing the first point – why the hell are you people signing loan agreements to borrow your own money? You just gave it away for free for a year, and now you’re paying to get it back. Ignorance because of your own laziness, yet you have no problems spending an hour drafting vitriol to make yourselves feel better about your own stupidity.”

  2. Rob, if you can be half dog, and half black woman, I don’t see why you couldn’t also be a single mom.

Question: would your youthful babysitting experience have been any better if the dog had been a pure lab as opposed to a mutt?

  3. If you want your refund in a hurry it’s very simple. You file your taxes on or around 1/31, which is when you got your W2. You don’t wait until prime filing season when millions of more complex returns are rolling in. You would have already gotten your refund.

  4. hmmmmm….

“I often find it funny that people feel they are being scammed by H&R Block because THEY did not qualify with HSBC bank for an instant money or rapid refund. They claim they are lied to and taken advantage of.
Another fact that those who complain fail to mention is that you DONT have to pay any fees up front… all your fees are taken from your refund. Tax payers should not depend so much on a tax refund… If you need your money that fast, you should pay interest.

A lot of people find the services of H&R Block helpful, those who get mad because they cant get their money in 2 days because they don’t qualify really need to consider their own circumstances before pointing any fingers.”

something tells me i wont qualify and will have to wait a month anyway on top of paying the fees even tho im not a single mom with kids

    *rob*

  5. hmmm i just googled h&r block rapid refund and the first thing that popped up was

    H & R Block

    Tax refund scam!

    Complaint Rating:
I am writing to inform others of the H & R block tax refund scam. 1st they tell you that you will receive a refund by direct deposit, debit card or some other way in 1 to 2 business days and charge a substantial fee for doing so the when you don’t get it deposited they say the bank done it. Well its their bank. Anyway after not getting the refund they give you a number to call (a recording of course) and all it says is you will receive your refund in 8 to 15 days. Well I could have done this myself online without paying someone $300. They thrive on taking advantage of single women with children because the size of there refunds which is the category I fall into and was really depending on this money.

  6. Rob – denton is right though – it’s a total scam – I recall a class action lawsuit against HR block for doing this sort of service years ago – I guess they are more up front about you actually getting a loan and if the US gov’t reduces the amount of your refund – you still would owe that money to HR block in the form of a loan repayment

my advice – just stick it out and wait for the IRS to send you the refund – I think it takes them about 6 weeks. I am waiting for my refund now and I had my taxes don on Feb 3
