  1. etson – I do believe they’re voting against their own best interests but I don’t believe in disenfranchising them. I just hope they’re also too stupid to follow road signs to NYC.

  2. gam….

It gets sheltered through the tax laws, otherwise known as loopholes. Lots of it will be kept offshore. With regards to states, it just moves to another one of lesser tax rates.

With the recent selloff in municapla bonds, now is a really great time to look at Nuveen tax exempt ETFs…primarily the ones that are onbly tax exempt at the federal level.

  3. “I think it’s more likely that the “non-elite” will take over in a totalitarian coup & kill the “elite”. ”

All the more reason to limit the scope of government so that no-one, left or right, can do this.

  4. g10, it has nothing to do with aspiration. it has to do with being real. folks in alabama, new orleans, hard hit manufacturing belt, folks here in NYC making minimum wage,… are poor. if you aint in that kind of boat, to claim to be poor is really insulting.

  5. I don’t see how it relates to the Republicans right now, bxgrl, but would be interested to hear what you mean.

I was referring to the idea, common among some on the left, that people in the MidWest and the South who vote Republican are doing so against their ‘real’ interests, as mentioned by Arkady.

  6. “More importantly, you fail to understand that most times that taxes are raised, LES REVENUE flows to the taxing agency, be it state or federal.”

So dibs – then explain to me where that money DOES go?

  7. sorry m4l – but i don’t think “but it’s better here than in china 20 yrs ago” is a good excuse.

if a good portion of the citizens in the country have no real hope of owning property, and have massive debt that they are expected to pay off and because healthcare costs are so high, they are forced to work jobs merely for the sake of staying alive – how is it any different here than a medieval serfdom?

    THAT’S what we’re moving towards.

i try not to think about this shit. i’d much rather chill with my weed and $12 4oz cocktails – but it bugs me.
