  1. Regarding the Getty Center, one thing that I love about it is that the price is so cheap (free with 10 or 15 dollar per car parking) that I would not feel bad about going there for a couple of hours. The grounds and views are especially wonderful around sunset.

  2. My favorite Santa Ynez winery is Sunstone, primarily because I love the feel and setting of their tasting area.

I know that different ones give various levels of tours, but I am not an expect.

  3. For what it’s worth, I did 20 years of pricing in my old industry, and Kens is 100% right, both yesterday and today. Anecdotal stories not withstanding, you are talking apples and oranges when it comes to high end and low end products, even if they are the same product, like for example sheets, which is what I was dealing with.

Vendors who sell to Walmart, KMart, Target, etc, could care less about what Frette, Anichini, and Ralph Lauren are doing on the high end, and vice versa. The fact that a set of cotton sheets can be bought at ABC Carpet for $900 does not tempt Walmart to set their sheets higher than $40. Their market will not tolerate that, and will get the same sheets, from the same vendor, at Target for the lesser cost. Conversely, Frette is marketing to a whole different set of folks, ones who are not likely to set foot in Walmart, and want the actual and/or perceived value of high end Frette sheets. Both are happy when they are selling what they do best.
